Methley is situated between Leeds and Castleford in West Yorkshire, England. Methley has a history of coal mining, though the mines in this part of the country closed several years ago. The surrounding area has much to offer the artist, from local industrial landscapes to the green and pleasant countryside of the nearby Yorkshire Dales.
Methley Art Group comprises of people from all over West Yorkshire and of a range of age groups, who share an interest in painting in a number of different media, mainly watercolour and oils. Although there is no formal tuition at our meetings we have amateur artists of all abilities who are always ready to share information and advice. The main attraction of the group is that going to the Methley Art Group creates the impetus to actually start a painting!. Some members finish a painting in a night, others take all year.
Methley Art Group has been running for many years and meets every Thursday Evening from September to Easter, with a break for Christmas. During the summer, painting days out are organised into the surrounding countryside to paint 'live' and collect material to paint during the winter.
